Considerations for Teaching Health & Physical Education Outside of the Classroom

    • Prior to any physical activity it is important to address the elements of risk of the activity and safety measures that need to be in place for safe participation. Review the Safety Considerations for important information to understand before getting started.
    • Tasks/activities must be able to be done individually or with family members; suggest activities that can be done with no or limited equipment and can be done in limited spaces.
    • Tasks/activities should be age and stage appropriate; accommodations or modifications should be considered.
    • Focus on physical activity/physical fitness development (20-30 minutes), health, well-being and mental health.
    • Link the tasks/activities to the Living Skills and/or Social Emotional Learning Skills whenever possible.
